Summertime and the Living is Busy!
Greetings art lovers. Summertime is here and it has been off to a
great start. Been kicking it with Andy Howell a bunch and getting
things going with ArtsProjekt. Look for a solo show Halloween at Swiv
Tackle Circus in Oceanside. I was also styled out by The Breek
Theatre to do Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead's June 29th show. The
imagery was Geronimo as a wolf. Next was this massive Eagle vs. Goat
mural at Evocal's Freedom Fest. Coming up is an artist's residency at
Montecito Sequoia and a visit to Skate Camp! Also coming
soon...Mike's Markers. Peace and sunshine!

Well friends it has been a busy Fall/Winter season thus far. Things
got cracking with the NYC launch of the Good Medicine Series in
October, followed by a solo show at Evocal in Costa Mesa, called
"Psychedelic Country" which featured over 50 recent pieces in
November. The weekend after that was a group show called "Truxtapoz"
at Melt where one of my all time favorite artists, Shepard Fairey
became a patron of mine. Stoked. This season's show tour will finish
off with a solo exhibition called "Neo-Folk" December 7th at The Hide
in downtown Santa Cruz. Hope everyone is keeping a tranquil state of
mind amongst the holiday weather, traffic, and shopping madness.
Happy Holla-daze!

Summer Wrap Up
Well Summer 07 was a complete whirlwind! Things started out kind of
heavy at my first year at Sawdust by getting served a couple of noncompliance notices for the heinous crime of selling skateboards. Somebody call the art police! The frustration only compounded by
getting into trouble again for using spray paint in my booth, and having some art stolen. Things took an upward spiral as I was commissioned by Nederlander Entertainment to do rock posters for The Beastie Boys and The Cure! The good news kept coming with the Good Medicine Series on the horizon for Element Skateboards, and I was named an Element Advocate alongside great peeps like Chad Muska, Ray Barbee, Briedt, and Todd Alexander Larson. Currently we are filming a DVD insert for the Good Medicine Series. This little nugget is guaranteed to cause controversy. Lastly I was able to pry myself away from the finicky Laguna Beach art world for a wonderful week up at Skate Camp with The Lonesome Heroes. There I painted a huge 20-foot bat eating a fish dinner on the side of the bowl. It was truly great to be up amongst the trees and stars. Thanks for the support I received this summer for my art, it is strong fuel for me. Bless.

Sawdust Strikes Again!
Greetings from Laguna Beach, California. All summer long Mike Kershnar studios has set up shop at The Sawdust Art Festival. You can find me here drawing, painting, and heckling all summer long, every day. Hours of the show are 10am to 10pm. Oy yoy yoy! Come by and bless it up.

Kershnar Nor-cal Tour!
Greetings friends. I am currently on a Nor-Cal Tour. First stop was the Boulder Creek Art and Wine Festival. It was hectic and fun as usual. Then it was down to Santa Cruz to finalize plans for my solo show at The Hide Gallery for February ‘-08. This photo of me with a Limited Edition California Condor was snapped by Cliff in Big Sur on an Adventure Out surf-recon mission. I am currently in beautiful Yosemite for a Kershnar family wedding. Plans for after the Simcha include a quick visit to Juxtapoz, and then up to The Harmony Festival in Sonoma where I will have an interactive art booth with guest salesgirl Anna Williams. Holla! Hope everyone is happy and healthy, and don’t forget to save the condors!

Greetings Friends!
What a weekend. I was blessed to get to do music posters back to back
for Stephen and Damian Marley as well as Groundation. Rock Poster Art
has been my favorite commercial art genre (other than skateboard decks) for my whole life and I am so stoked to be a part of the whole vibe. Reggae music has been a positive influence on me since childhood with its focus on thankfulness, social change, and giving
praises. I am honored to try to put into a visual art, the feelings of seeing these amazing musicians performing live. For the Marley brothers I did two biblical brothers Moses and Aaron standing at the parting of the Red Sea during the Exodus, (which was the track they ended the show on). The Groundation poster for the Coach House featured a Meadowlark perched on a tomahawk-pipe delivering the power of music as a warrior and as psalmist. Many thanks go out to people
that are helping me to allow my art to connect to the music that touches my soul. Bless.

World Headquarters of Kershmerica Corp. in Laguna Beach was blessed
to have professional skateboarder Adelmo Jr. pay us a studio visit
this month. Todd and I spotted him on PCH bumping some Midnite. We
flagged him down and five minutes later he was in the Lions Den.
Adelmo was hyped on the art giving it 2 enthusiastic thumbs up! Of
course no visitor leaves without a little something to remember the
trip so I gave him a framed Midnite poster. It seemed to complete the
skateboarding/reggae/art interaction nicely. I have admired Adelmo's
positive vibe and beautiful skateboarding for years, and it felt great to have him so enthusiastic about the art. Inspiration abounds and
friends and heroes can be one and the same. Bless.

Congratulations goes out to Frank Scura of ASEC! ASEC hosted the
first ever Skate/Surf/Snow Environmental Summit, and it was a huge success. Topics covered included cooperative buying power for organic
raw materials, partnering with the natural products industry, and
leadership within the world of sports and youth culture. Inspired
words and inspired people. Frank was nice enough to have me to
represent Skateboard Art alongside of the epic work of Surf Artist,
Jesse Miller. I was curious to ask Mike Carroll if he thought the work
was tight. Of course I didn't. But I wonder if he liked it. Unfortunately I did not sell a damn thing to all those millionaires. Oh well. Goodness seeds in many forms.

In Moby Dick Captain Ahab asks his crew, "What do you do if you see a
whale?" They all answer, "Sing out about it!" When we have good news
in our lives, it always pleasant to share it with others so that we may continue the circle of inspiration and good blessings. I have a lot of good news to sing out about on the artistic front. I am excited to announce that I officially have a board graphic series coming out for Ed Templeton's Bloodsucking Company Toy Machine this summer. Look out for some vegan x primitive skills insanity. I will also be participating in the Sawdust Art Festival all summer so come by and visit. Also, I am blessed to have picked up gallery representation by Stewart Kummer Gallery in Mendocino California. A big thanks goes out to them so much for believing in me and pushing my career forward massively.

Summer is just around the corner, so dust off those bikinis, holler at me, and head towards Laguna people!

Greetings Living Breathing Beings,
I am having an art show in the Garage of Taco Loco this Thursday in
Laguna Beach from 6-11pm. Fret not though, with all the cool
lighting, live music (via my I-pod), tables, and art, you will be
mystically transported to Vincent's Night Cafe. This evening promises
to be the Orange County cultural event of the week! So come on down
and bring the kids, but don't bring dogs in sweaters or they will be
severely heckled. See you there!

Greetings and blessings and love to everyone everywhere. 2007 has been off to great start for Mike Kershnar Art with the help of some amazing people. Marc, Justin, Daniel, and Price thank you so much for believing in me. The Creator has smiled upon me and blessed me to do a poster for my very favorite roots reggae band Midnite. If you haven’t yet heard Midnite, please check them out and manifest your covenant. I hope everyone is well and be sure to check out the film Rockers if you have not seen it yet.

Seasons Greetings.  As most of you know, this is the time of year when corporations throw holiday parties for all their employees.  In that tradition, I  decieded to have a nice posh party for some of my animal compatriots.  Check out the wild life chillin' in the strictly A-list Orange County night club, "Sutra", while DJ CHAD MUSKA spins a private set for the crew.  "It was great partying with The Muska", The Bat said over a double shot of vodka, "I've always liked his unique style."  The Mountain Lion was equally enthusiastic, but was escorted out by security after biting the dress of a Go-Go dancer.  "She wanted it."  He was heard growling as he was ushered out.  Thanks to all the Arty-goers for making it a memorable evening.  Happy Holla-days!

Monday, October 23rd
What up people!  This weekend I painted live both days of  The Goofy vs. Regular Pro Skate Contest in Lake Forest California.   The project was a fifty foot wide ten foot tall mural on wood with the theme of "love".   The Glue Network will then sell the piece at a show in November at The Voice Gallery in San Diego to raise money for children's causes world wide.  I was stoked to paint alongside such notable skate artists as Ed Templeton, Andy Howell, Lance Mountain, and Steve Caballero.  I painted a 10 foot coiled snake spitting out a flock of butterflies.  It symbolizes the tension between carnal aesthetic love and love as the highest expression of the male and female relationship.   It is like wings of transformation spit from the forked tongue of the viper.  Funny enough, before all the detail was added, the rough single color outline definitely looked like a giant red phallus ejecting a load towards the sky.  Thanks to Scott from the Glue Network for the invite.

Peace.

Halloween is just around the corner so its time to get strange.
